Columbus, Nebraska, is a mid-sized city in Platte County with about 24,000–25,000 people. It is about 85 miles northwest of Omaha and 75 miles northwest of Lincoln. It has a mix of small-town and suburban living with a community-focused culture. The Columbus public school system has several public elementary schools, including Shell Creek, Richland, and Centennial, which are some of the largest. The district is known for its size and diversity, and its average academic proficiency scores are lower than the state average. Families can also choose from eight private elementary schools, many of which are religious, like St. Isidore and St. Bonaventure. St. Isidore Elementary School in Columbus has received the National Blue Ribbon award for academic excellence, which is a big deal. Columbus is a great place for elementary school because it has a lot of different schools, a lot of community involvement, and a family-friendly atmosphere.
