Durham Charter School currently serves approximately 777 students enrolled in grades K-10, taught by about 63 teachers, which gives it a targeted student-teacher ratio of about 12 to 1. Its academic performance is respectable: almost 59% of students are proficient in math and 53% in reading, both above the state median; science proficiency is very impressive, with the school falling in the top 5% in the state. Almost all students(~ 98-99%) are from a minority background, primarily Hispanic, and a large percentage qualify for free lunch, emphasizing its community focus. It is now recognized for its academically high growth performance and for starting a high school program last year, making it one of the best elementary schools in North Carolina. The neighborhoods surrounding the school have median home sale prices are around $424K.
