Kansas City, Missouri, straddling the Kansas border, is famous for jazz, barbecue, and a fast-growing arts and tech scene. The city is served by Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS), which educates around 15,000 students. While top charter schools perform well, district-wide proficiency rates remain low, averaging around 25–35% in reading and math. The graduation rate is approximately 77%, with persistent challenges in equity, funding, and teacher retention.
