Rachel Carson Elementary School (RCES) in Gaithersburg, Maryland, is a high-performing public elementary school that is part of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) system. It serves students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade. The school has a lot of students, with about 675 to 700 students enrolled. RCES has about 16 students for every teacher. The school has a history of success; in 2012, it was named a National Blue Ribbon School. The Center for Enriched Studies (formerly the Center Program for the Highly Gifted) is part of the school's strong curriculum. State test scores show that about 71% of students are good at math and 74% are good at reading and writing. RCES is one of the best elementary schools in Maryland, often making it into the top 50. The Kentlands and Lakelands neighborhoods are part of the surrounding community, which has higher-than-average home values. This leads to a lot of parental involvement. The school is part of the Quince Orchard Cluster and is well-known for having a positive and academically focused atmosphere.

Rachel Carson Elementary School invited families to enjoy a meal at Shake Shack on Monday, November 3 from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. as part of a school fundraiser. During the event, 25 percent of each order was donated back to support the school.
