Being Updated
In June 2025, Kentucky's legislature passed Senate Bill 167, which says that all elementary schools in the state must teach cursive writing starting in the 2025–26 school year. The change brings back cursive writing lessons, which had mostly been dropped from many school curriculums since the common-core standards were put in place. Potter Gray's local administrators said that the school had already been teaching cursive writing to its students for a while. Keith Brown, the principal of the school, says that the curriculum will now have more requirements. For example, students must be able to write in cursive by the time they reach fifth grade. The school expects a small change in the coming year because of changes in statewide requirements, but it says that the transition is mostly in line with how it already does things. This change is getting a lot of attention because it shows how Potter Gray is adapting to new educational requirements and how the state's priorities for teaching are changing.
