Columbus City Schools (CCS), Georgia’s largest district with ~55,000 students and a 15–16:1 student–teacher ratio, operates 142 schools, including 85 elementary sites. On the 2023–24 state report card, CCS earned an overall 2-star rating, achieving one star in early literacy and graduation, and two stars in achievement, progress, and gap-closing—signaling strong growth yet room for improvement. Notably, 44 schools earned 3+ star recognition, including Avondale and Eakin elementaries, showcasing turnaround success. District initiatives include tuition-free Pre-K enrollment starting in 2025, a $1.4 million early literacy grant, Science of Reading curriculum with LETRS coaching, MAP data-driven interventions, and “Columbus Promise” college scholarship partnership supporting pathways from early learning to the best middle schools in Georgia.
