R. Bruce Wagner Elementary School, located at 5500 Yates Road in Lakeland, Florida, serves students in grades Pre-K through 5 and is part of the Polk County Public Schools district. The school’s student–teacher ratio is approximately 15.6 : 1, offering class sizes slightly better than many peers. According to recent data, about 49% of students achieve proficiency in math, and approximately 46% are proficient in reading, both of which fall below state averages.
The student population is diverse: about 43.8% Hispanic, 38.6% White, 12% Black/African-American, and around 65% of students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a community with substantial economic need. Students from R. Bruce Wagner typically advance to feeder schools within the Lakeland area (such as Lakeland Senior High School), which has produced notable alumni including MLB pitcher Chris Sale and NFL centre Maurkice Pouncey.
For families exploring relocation, three-bedroom rentals in the Lakeland region generally fall between US $1,800 and US $2,500 per month, depending on size, condition, and location. With manageable class sizes and a diverse community, R. Bruce Wagner offers a solid neighborhood environment; however, families looking for stronger academic outcomes, especially in math and reading, may want to ask about intervention supports or consider comparing with higher-performing nearby schools.
New Playground Name
We are so excited to announce the name of our new playground! Following a school-wide and Robinson community vote we narrowed a large list of names down to four. Since our students will be using the playground on a daily basis, we gave them the final vote! 476.....

Being Updated
In Spring 2025, R. Bruce Wagner Elementary launched a “Future Leaders Week,” during which students organized campus service projects, peer-mentoring sessions and hosted a community guest-speaker event focused on career pathways in technology.
1. What intervention programs are in place for students who are behind grade level?
A. The school offers targeted small-group instruction, homework-help sessions and scheduled progress reviews with parents. It’s helpful to ask how often students are assessed and at what point interventions begin.
2. How does R. Bruce Wagner support English-language learners and multilingual families?
A. With a significant portion of Hispanic enrollment, the school provides ESOL-certified staff, bilingual communications and family-workshops to assist with home support.
3. What is the school’s attendance and mobility environment like?
A. The campus reports relatively high chronic absenteeism and student mobility—factors that can affect instructional continuity. Families should ask about how the school monitors and addresses these issues.
4. What enrichment or extracurricular opportunities are available?
A. Students can participate in clubs such as robotics, reading buddies, and seasonal enrichment days. These opportunities can enhance the classroom experience but may not replace foundational academic support.
5. What should families understand about housing if relocating into this attendance zone?
A. While three-bedroom rentals in Lakeland are relatively affordable (around $1,800–$2,500/month), families should also consider commute time, property condition, and the possibility of supplementing academic support given current proficiency levels.
