As the SFUSD talks about possible reorganizations and districtwide closures because of budget problems, Harvey Milk Civil Rights Elementary is back in the news. Parents and community leaders are still getting ready for future proposals that could affect the school's independence and mission in the Castro neighborhood, even though plans were put on hold last year.
Q1. Does Harvey Civil Rights Elementary School have a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program?
Ans. Yes, the school takes kids from Transitional Kindergarten to Grade 5.
Q2. Are there any programs that kids can go to before or after school?
Ans. Yes, district partnerships offer extended-day programs, but only if there is space.
Q3. Does the school offer services for students with special needs?
Ans. Yes, SFUSD does offer special education and student support services.
Q4. Is it easy to get to the school by bus or train?
Ans. Yes, there are several San Francisco Muni bus routes that go to the school.
Q5. Do schools want families to take part in school events?
Ans. Yes, school events and community activities encourage families to get involved.
