Being Updated
This school year, Perkins K-8 School in San Diego is seeing big changes in how many students are enrolling. Teachers at Perkins say that the number of new immigrant students who are enrolling at the school has dropped a lot compared to previous years. This change is similar to what is happening in schools across the region, where fewer families with new students are signing up for classes. At one point, Perkins welcomed a lot of new students from other countries, but this semester, that trend has slowed down a lot. Even though enrollment levels are steady across the district, the drop at Perkins stands out to teachers and administrators who were used to a steady stream of different types of students. Even though the school community is changing, staff still focus on giving all students the help they need and making the school a welcoming place.
