Mark Keppel High School is located at 501 East Hellman Avenue, Alhambra, California 91801. The campus serves students in grades 9 through 12 within the Alhambra Unified School District. Enrollment stands at about 2,178 students, giving the school one of the larger high school populations in the San Gabriel Valley. The student–teacher ratio is approximately 27:1 based on reported staffing levels. The student body is composed of about 53% male students and 47% female students. Recent state results indicate that roughly 54% of students meet mathematics proficiency standards, while about 73% reach proficiency in reading and language arts. Mark Keppel High School has officially announced its upcoming Western Association of Schools and Colleges accreditation visit, scheduled for Spring 2027, a process that evaluates overall school quality, academic programs, and institutional effectiveness. The school is actively recruiting parent and guardian volunteers to participate in focus group sessions as part of the review. For a campus already ranked 132nd in California, a successful WASC outcome could further solidify its standing among the San Gabriel Valley's top comprehensive high schools.
Q1. Does Mark Keppel provide advanced placement (AP)?
Ans. Yes, Mark Keppel has AP classes available for core subjects like English/language arts, math, science, and history. If students take and pass an AP exam, they have the option to earn college credits prior to graduation.
Q2. Are dual enrollment (DE) college courses offered by Mark Keppel?
Ans. Yes, Alhambra Unified has partnerships with its community colleges so that eligible students can take DE classes for college credit while still enrolled in high school. Contact your school counselor to verify what courses are currently being offered and the eligibility for those courses.
Q3. Does Keppel have career technical education (CTE) programs?
Ans. Mark Keppel offers CTE programs that prepare you for a career in multiple sectors, including business, technology, health sciences, and arts/media. Students should meet with their school counselor during the course selection process to verify which pathways are currently available and which prerequisites exist for enrollment.
Q4. What support does Keppel provide for college entrance exams (SAT/ACT)?
Ans. The Counseling Department offers assistance during the application process for both the SATs and the ACTs. In addition, it provides information about registration timelines, fee waivers, and preparation resources. Students should meet with their school counselors by the end of their sophomore year to create an SAT/ACT test plan.
Q5. What are the student parking policies at Mark Keppel?
Ans. Parking permit registration is required for all students who drive; it must be displayed on your vehicle while parked at Mark Keppel High School (construction projects are occurring throughout campus). To obtain up-to-date information regarding parking permits (cost) and rules governing access to campus, call your school's main office.
