Latest News

At Los Cerritos Elementary in Paramount, we are pleased to report that we will be bringing our enrollment back up in 2024-25 with an estimated total of 387 students currently enrolled—a reversal of a multi-year enrollment decrease during which the campus lost almost 15% of its student population over the prior five school years. District leadership credits the turnaround with Paramount Unified's improved outreach efforts for prekindergarten and early enrollment. The return of stability in enrollment indicates to students and their families that there is continuing confidence in Los Cerritos as a long-term school site.

FAQ

Q1. What types of academic intervention/support programs are available for children who are not meeting grade-level performance standards at Los Cerritos?

Ans. Los Cerritos has Title I Schoolwide status, which allows the school to receive additional assistance from the federal government for a variety of academically supportive services that will help students achieve grade-level performance. The school utilizes Universal Access programming to support schools in providing differentiated curriculum to students, and will use this program to give students who perform below grade level a larger variety of academic resources for interventions. Parents can access information about recovery programs through their child's teacher or by contacting the school office.

Q2. Does Los Cerritos Elementary have a school counselor on a full-time basis?

Ans. Yes, data indicate that Los Cerritos Elementary has one full-time counselor. The purpose of having a school counselor at the elementary level is to assist students in developing skills in Social-Emotional Learning, making academic referrals, and referring families to community resources. Parents can contact the school office to request referrals or discuss their child's well-being.

Q3. What types of language support services are provided to the students who are English Language Learners (ELL) at Los Cerritos?

Ans. Los Cerritos Elementary offers Designated English Language Development (ELD) instruction as required by the State of California. Because Los Cerritos is a Title I high-need school with a large percentage of Hispanic students, it is expected that the school should offer structured ELD instruction and bilingual support. Any families interested in obtaining specific information about how ELL services will be provided during the current school year should reach out directly to their child's teacher or the school office.

Q4. What after-school programs are offered at Los Cerritos?

Ans. At Los Cerritos, a part of the Paramount Unified After School Education & Safety program operates with regard to our partnership with Think Together. The program provides free, supervised academic support and enrichment activities after each school day. In order to verify current program availability and enrollment procedures, contact the school office.

Q5. How is student attendance/readiness for school etc. handled at Los Cerritos Elementary?

Ans. Los Cerritos follows the Paramount Unified School District's attendance policies and relies upon parents/guardians to report absences in a timely manner, which prevents absences from being assigned an unexcused designation. Students that are absent for 10% or greater number of days within a complete school year will be subject to California's chronic absenteeism laws and may be referred to additional support. Families should notify the school office in a timely manner when barriers to attendance arise so that they may provide resources for assistance. For timely parents/guardians can utilize ParentSquare for real-time reporting of absences and communicating electronically with their child's attendance.
