Paramount is an urban city in Los Angeles County, covering about 4.7 square miles in the southeastern part of the metropolitan area. It borders Compton, Lynwood, Downey, South Gate, and Bellflower. With a population of approximately 51,400, it is one of the more densely populated cities in Southern California. The city is predominantly Hispanic and has a median household income of around $70,912. Incorporated in 1957, Paramount is served by major freeways, including I-105, I-710, and SR-91. Public education is provided by the Paramount Unified School District, which operates neighborhood-based elementary schools serving primarily K–5 students. These schools focus on core academics while integrating science, technology, and the arts and offer ELL support, counseling, GATE programs, and after-school activities.
