National City, California, is a historic and diverse community in San Diego County with more than 55,000 people living there. The city is just south of downtown San Diego and has a city-like lifestyle with strong cultural influences and a close-knit community feel. The National School District runs most of the public elementary schools in the area. There are also charter and private schools in the area. To serve a diverse student body, schools focus on basic academics, bilingual education, STEM programs, and student support services. Some schools have gotten good ratings from the state for making progress in their academics.
