The Wall Street Journal has a story about how Arizona public schools are seeing fewer students because charter schools, vouchers, private schools, and homeschooling are all getting more popular.

Another article talks about how Arizona's big school voucher program is actually causing some public schools to close down. It shows how families are changing where they send their kids to school.

There's also a newsletter talking about some cool, new tech and learning tools, like solar-powered digital libraries, being added to Arizona schools to make learning in the classroom even better.

FAQ

Q1. How do you assess students' academic performance in a Montessori classroom?

Ans: In the early years, we check on students through their progress, portfolios, and watching them. We don't use regular grades until the higher grades.

Q2. Do you have programs for students who are gifted or do well?

Ans: Yes, we use plans that are made for each student and projects that are harder to challenge students who are good at certain subjects.

Q3. How do you deal with admissions or signing up new students?

Ans: If too many people want to join a grade, we usually pick students through a lottery.Priority is often given to siblings of students already here and people who live nearby.

Q4. Do you help students get ready for high school?

Ans: We have advisors and programs to get students ready for high school.

Q5. How do you add STEM (Science, Tech, Engineering, and Math) to your teaching?

Ans: We add STEM ideas into our activities, experiments, and projects, especially for older elementary and middle school students.
