Missoula mornings usually feel soft and a little cool, with the mountains holding the light for a moment before it reaches the houses. Families step outside with backpacks, jackets, and warm coffee cups, heading toward their cars or walking along sidewalks that run past cedar-sided homes, older cottages, and yards with tall trees that stay busy with birds. Some porches have bikes leaning against the railings, others carry a couple of chairs that only get used when the sun shows up. Early walkers move quietly, and there is always someone jogging with a dog or warming up a Subaru in the driveway. A few local cafés open early, and regulars slip in for their usual cup without much noise. By afternoon, the neighborhoods soften. Kids ride bikes toward nearby trails, neighbors talk near mailboxes, and someone is usually tending plants or sweeping pine needles off the porch. The whole place feels peaceful and tucked into nature.
