About Tamara Goldie
Tamara Goldie is an Accessible Education Counselor at Gavilan College in Gilroy, California, where she has assisted students with disabilities in planning and obtaining their educational goals since January 2024. She specializes in providing support to students with their academic coursework, facilitating and developing tools to manage their personal, academic and vocational goals. Her expertise includes ADHD coaching and academic advising, ensuring students with disabilities receive the accommodations and guidance they need to succeed in higher education. Since April 2001, Tamara has worked at De Anza College as both an Extended Opportunities Programs and Services Counselor through February 2024 and continues as a college instructor teaching courses in Human Development, Orientation to College, College Success and Career Planning. EOPS and CARE are state-funded programs designed to help low-income and academically disadvantaged California residents succeed in college. She is proficient in Canvas Learning Platform for online teaching, demonstrating strong technical skills within and outside the classroom setting. Concurrently, she spent over 22 years at San José State University in various academic advising roles, including as Senior Academic Advisor from November 2022 to June 2024, College of Humanities and Arts Student Success Center Academic Advisor from January 2015 to January 2024, and Liberal Studies Academic Advisor from October 2001 to January 2015. In these roles, she provided quality academic advising to empower students, address their individual needs, enhance their experience at SJSU and ensure timely graduation, with particular focus on preparing elementary education teachers through the Liberal Studies Teacher Preparation program.?
Tamara holds a Master of Science in Counseling with a concentration in Clinical Child Psychology and School Psychology from California State University East Bay, where she trained in evidence-based practice to promote social justice and equity to diverse school communities. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Northridge, where she was a member of Psi Chi Honor Society. She holds Mental Health First Aid certification from Gavilan College, valid through March 2027. Her philosophy centers on providing all students with the support, skills and services they need to reach their full potential in spite of poverty and other significant challenges.
