Joseph Romano

Joseph Romano serves as College Counselor at Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, California, where he has worked for over 18 years in various leadership roles supporting students through their academic and athletic journeys. Since June 2018, he has focused on guiding students through the college admissions process as part of a robust counseling program at Bellarmine, recognized as the most comprehensive in the Bay Area with six full-time college counselors, five of whom have admissions office experience. Previously, Joseph served as Athletic Director from August 2014 to June 2018 and as College Counselor from August 2007 to August 2014, demonstrating deep institutional knowledge of both academic counseling and athletics.

His athletic background includes coaching and scouting experience with professional lacrosse teams, serving as Assistant Coach and Scout for the Vancouver Stealth from July 2008 to June 2013 and Assistant Coach for the San Francisco Dragons from February 2008 to September 2009. Joseph was also the varsity head lacrosse coach at Bellarmine College Preparatory from 2010 to 2014 before transitioning to athletic director and now college counseling roles, giving him unique insight into supporting student athletes through recruitment and the admissions process.?

At Bellarmine, Joseph works within a team committed to cura personalis, helping students identify colleges that align with their aspirations, achievements, priorities and needs through individual meetings, parent presentations, college guidance classes and senior orientation programs. The college counseling department at the school hosts over 150 college admissions officers annually and provides specialized recruitment counseling for athletes pursuing DI, DII, DIII or NAIA opportunities, positioning Joseph to guide students effectively through both academic and athletic college pathways.?
