Being Updated
In early 2026, the Brooklyn Environmental Exploration School (Bees) became the first school in New York City to use vegetable oil biofuel to heat the whole building. The campus put four low-emission boilers in the basement as part of the conversion project. Officials at the school said that the system was put in place to cut down on pollution in the area and make it easier for buildings to run more cleanly. The project is also part of student sustainability classes, where they can learn about it in the real world.
