New Hampshire has been a leader in quality education at the middle school level for many years and has been consistently rated as one of the best states for middle schoolers. Home to many of the best middle schools in New Hampshire, the state benefits from a low 12:1 student-to-teacher ratio, one of the best in the United States. In a recent analysis of test results from 8th graders in 2025, New Hampshire ranked very highly among all other states, with 8th graders on average ranking in the top 5% of the country for reading and the top 10% nationally in math. In addition, New Hampshire is investing in additional funding for each student, creating specialized charter schools that focus on STEM education, and utilizing a transparent system for tracking middle school students performance.
