Colorado is demonstrating continued strong results in middle school education as measured by state academic measures. By 2025, there are nearly 194,000 students in grades 6-8, and over two-thirds of the state middle schools have been awarded the state highest rating (Performance Plan). Both achievement and progress in Colorado educational systems are equally important. Based on the data from CMAS, ELA proficiency rates are at 44.8%, with an increasing trend in math and science proficiency, indicative of continued growth. The reputation of the top middle schools in Colorado is framed around the comprehensive programming offered under the Growth Model of Colorado, as well as an abundance of charter and innovation school opportunities, with many school pathways focused on both the arts as well as on STEM disciplines.
