Wilmington is a historic, industrial neighborhood in the Harbor area of Los Angeles, right next to the Port of Los Angeles. The area is in the middle of one of the world biggest import/export economies and is built on top of the third-largest oil field in the continental US. This makes it a very industrial area. It was once its own city, but Los Angeles took it over in 1909. Wilmington has important historical sites like the Drum Barracks and Banning House. These buildings show that Wilmington has been an important part of the history of the L.A. harbor since it was first built.
