San Jose is the largest city in Northern California and the heart of Silicon Valleys economy, culture, and politics. People all over the world know it as a place where new high-tech ideas are born, especially in the areas of computer hardware, software, and the internet. It was the first civilian settlement in California and for a short time, from 1777 to 1781, it was the states capital. San Jose has a mild, sunny climate, a lot of different cultures, and is home to San Jose State University. It has a rich, modern feel because it has both old and new buildings.
