Rapid City, known as the "Gateway to the Black Hills," has a population of about 78,000 people. The city is known for its beautiful natural scenery and tourism. High school education is available at a number of large public schools and specialized private academies. Native American studies, engineering, and environmental science are all part of their curricula. The district is known for its extracurricular programs that do very well, especially in the arts and sports.
