The Rhode Island high school system continues to recover academically, as evidenced by measurable improvements in graduation rates. This year, Rhode Island had its highest graduation rate of 84.1% in over ten years. Also, the state made positive gains on the SAT and PSAT assessments. A majority of Graduates (over 50% of graduating students) are obtaining a credential to measure their readiness for postsecondary success by the end of high school, indicating alignment between the expectations of colleges and careers. As a result of improvements in accountability for schools, seven in ten schools (approximately 60%) in the state earned three stars or higher. Continued curricular reforms and targeted support efforts are helping to improve student outcomes in high schools. Therefore, the top-performing high schools in Rhode Island can be regarded as leaders in their continued progress based on the use of data and the ability to demonstrate resiliency.
