About UCS Alternative Learning Center

UCS Alternative Learning Center is a public alternative high school in Sterling Heights, Michigan. It serves grades 9–12 and is one of five high schools in the Utica Community Schools district. The school has a small number of students, usually fewer than 200, which helps keep the student-to-teacher ratio low and allows for personalized academic help. UCS Alternative Learning Center focuses on individualized learning paths, recovering lost credits, and flexible schedules. It teaches English language arts, math, science, and social studies in a way that meets state standards. The educational approach focuses on getting students involved in their studies and making progress toward graduation in a structured and supportive environment. The student body is made up of people from many different backgrounds. About 33% of the students are minorities, and about 69% of the students are from families with low incomes. Because the school is set up differently, not many students can take the SAT or ACT. People say that UCS Alternative Learning Center is a good place to learn because it has small classes, personalized help, and a dedication to helping students reach their academic goals.
