University Preparatory Academy Charter is one of the best schools in San Jose, California. It serves students in grades 7 through 12. It is the best public charter school in the area and the only high school in its district. It has about 600 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of about 19:1. The school is known for having high academic standards, with a notable 89% of students taking Advanced Placement classes and tests.The student body is very diverse, with 93% of students being minorities and 31% of students being economically disadvantaged. The University Preparatory Academy Charter does very well on tests, with an 85% reading proficiency rate and a 64% math proficiency rate.
The school is in an area with a strong reputation for excellence, and it encourages a culture of high expectations and prepares students for college. University Preparatory Academy has added new elective paths in digital media and computer science to its already rigorous college-preparatory curriculum. The school is currently running its Senior Seminar series, which is a special program that helps students get through the last steps of applying to college and getting financial aid. The campus also recently improved its teaching technology by giving students high-speed devices to help them with project-based learning and advanced research projects.
