The school is known as one of the best in the area and has a unique "middle college" model that lets students earn college credits at the same time. East Village Middle College High is still working with San Diego City College to give students the chance to take college classes and get an Associate Degree while they are still in high school. The school has added new Saturday Academy sessions for the 2025–2026 school year to help students get ready for college by focusing on intensive SAT and ACT prep. The campus also recently added a STEM-focused mentorship program that pairs upperclassmen with industry leaders in the East Village tech corridor to help them learn about new career paths.
