See top schools in MercedGolden Valley High School is one of the best public high schools in the Merced Union High School District. It serves about 1,850 students in grades 9 through 12. With a student-to-teacher ratio of about 23:1, the school encourages students to work together to learn. It is one of the best schools in Merced and has a strong curriculum. Students can take Advanced Placement classes and tests, and 20% of students do. There are 91% minority students on campus, and 85% of students are economically disadvantaged. This shows that the campus is home to a lively and diverse community. Golden Valley High School says that 41% of its students are good at reading and 11% are good at math. Students often take college entrance exams like the SAT and ACT to help them reach their goals after high school. The school is known for having a welcoming atmosphere and a good reputation in the community. It is also dedicated to helping all of its students grow academically and giving them a wide range of opportunities, and it is one of the best high school in California.

Golden Valley High School was recently named a Disney on Broadway School of Excellence. This means that it is one of only 21 schools in the country that can perform "High School Musical" for free this year. Senior Lacey Spielman made the campus even more unique by winning the title of Miss Merced County 2026. She talked about her community service project that focused on teaching people about farming. Also, the school's Academic Decathlon team kept up its tradition of excellence by winning a silver medal at the 45th annual county-wide competition in February 2026.
