About Intellectual Virtues Academy

Long Beach, California is home to the public charter high school Intellectual Virtues Academy, or IVA. They teach kids in grades 9 through 12.There are about 18 students for every teacher at our school. This makes learning more personal for our students than it would be in a bigger public high school. We really want our students to get ready for college at IVA. We want our students to think deeply, find solutions, and build good school habits. Long Beach students come from many different backgrounds, both in terms of race and money. About 46% of the students are doing well in math. For ELA, or English Language Arts, it's 70%, which is a pretty good score. So, even though our reading scores are good, our math scores are only okay compared to the rest of the state. To get students ready for college, the school offers regular classes, extra options, and AP classes. Kids also take tests like the SAT to make sure they're ready for college.
