Lancaster is in the Antelope Valley and has a population of about 170,000. It is known for its aerospace history and sunny, high-desert weather. There are a lot of public high schools and private religious schools in the city that focus on STEM, aerospace engineering, and vocational skills. The school system is diverse and has specialized academies that have won state and regional awards for coming up with new ways to prepare students for careers. A lot of local high schools are known for their outstanding ROTC programs and sports teams. Families move to Lancaster because housing is cheap and schools give students direct access to the growing aerospace and technology industries in the area.
