It is one of six high schools in the Compton Unified School District and has about 850 students, with a student-to-teacher ratio of about 20:1. The school is known as one of the best for helping students do well in school. It has a 32% AP participation rate and offers a lot of Advanced Placement courses. The student body is made up of 100% minorities, and 93% of the students are from low-income families. In terms of academics, the school has a 31% proficiency rate in reading and an 8% proficiency rate in math. Along with their regular classes, students also do a lot of other things, like take the SAT and ACT to get ready for college. The area has a strong sense of community, and the median home price is in line with the urban landscape of Los Angeles County. The Compton Unified School District Board of Trustees recently chose a modern, state-of-the-art design for a new Centennial High School campus. This design won a prestigious Award of Excellence at the 2025 Leroy F. Greene Design & Planning Awards. Recently, students from the school showed off their musical skills around the world by taking part in the Rome New Year's Day Parade in Italy. Also, the launch of the 3DE learning model, a partnership with Junior Achievement that brings real-world business problems into the classroom, is helping students.
