The Montessori Public School of Arlington (MPSA) is a unique program in the Arlington Public Schools system, because it focuses on self-directed learning and also whole-child development. As a school with a history dating back to 1971, it is one of the oldest Montessori programs in the public sector in the United States, and it has always posted positive results, with students doing well on Virginia’s Standards of Learning assessments. The Montessori program offers rigor in areas of learning while paying attention to social and emotional development, and it purposely combines academic studies with a hands-on curriculum and mixed-age classrooms that promote peer learning. Parents appreciate the calm, structured environment of the school and its proven success, which is why it is recognized as one of the best elementary schools in Virginia.
