Being Updated
News of the Day: A new law in Oklahoma (House Bill 2778) now gives free child care to early childhood educators, including those who work at schools like Kirkland. This is a big deal for the Kirkland Early Childhood Center. This law, which the legislature passed after overriding a veto, is meant to help with staffing shortages in child care by making it easier for teachers and caregivers to pay their bills. At Kirkland, the effect has been especially emotional. The principal said that about 40% of the facility's child-care workers now qualify for this benefit. Some have said they are relieved and grateful because free care for their own children takes a lot of stress off their finances. One provider said that when she found out her toddler could go to the same building for free, she "literally cried. The Oklahoma Department of Human Services funds the "Teacher Recruitment and Retention Program," which is run by the Oklahoma Partnership for School Readiness.
