In recent news about P.S. 188 The Island School located in Manhattan, there is an indication that the school continues with their efforts aimed at extending their community programs and activities aimed at enriching students. This includes their extended day community program that involves teaching activities such as academics and arts meant to enhance engagement of students from pre-K through middle school years. It should be noted that the school continues with the process of registration for the 2025-26 academic year.
Q1. What kind of extracurriculars does the school provide?
Ans. Students have the opportunity to participate in a number of enriching experiences including arts related clubs, music classes, academic tutoring and recreational programming, which changes each year.
Q2. Does your school have zoned admission, or is it selective?
Ans. This is a zoned NYC public school, catering mainly to the attendance zone population of children living in it.
Q3. What kind of support services do you provide for your students?
Ans. Student support services include interventions for academic help, services for special education and for English language learners.
Q4. Does the curriculum offer arts programs and STEM programs?
Ans. Students are exposed to arts and STEM projects that are incorporated into the regular class curriculum, as well as music lessons.
Q5. How do you keep parents informed?
Ans. Parental communications are conducted through various means including notifications on academic progress, parent meetings and other announcements.
