Being Updated
Dr. Beverly S. Mathis Elementary School sends a big thank you to the PTO for treating teachers to a delicious caramel apple bar on October 25. This special celebration showed appreciation for the staff and recognized them as the “best in the bunch.”
Q1. What are the "Be a Beverly" rules at Dr. Beverly S. Mathis Elementary School?
Ans. "Be a Beverly" at Mathis means that students should always be respectful, responsible, honest, and safe. Teachers incorporate these values into daily activities in the classroom, hallway rules, and interactions on the playground so that kids learn that character is just as important as schoolwork.
Q2. How does Mathis Elementary help students feel positive about themselves during the school day?
Ans. Mathis has a facility dog named Cyrus who helps students feel calmer and more connected at school. This makes emotional support stronger. Along with caring adults, Cyrus is a calming presence during reading time, small groups, or special visits. These activities can be especially helpful for kids who are nervous or overwhelmed.
Q3. What does the school do to keep students safe?
Ans. Mathis is a safe place because there are set times for dropping off and picking up students, clear rules for the campus, and adults are always watching in common areas. Families are told to follow certain rules for parking and driving so that students can move between cars and classrooms in a safe and predictable way.
Q4. What role do families play in the life of Dr. Beverly S. Mathis Elementary?
Ans. At Mathis, families can become involved in school events, volunteer work, and regular communication between home and school. Parents are welcome to come to special events, talk to teachers, and take part in activities that show how much their child has learned. This helps build a stronger relationship between families and staff.
Q5. What kinds of positive behavior and leadership do you want students to show?
Ans. When students choose to "Be a Beverly" by helping others, telling the truth, and following safety rules, Mathis celebrates their good behavior. Staff members encourage kids to see themselves as role models for their classmates. They point out everyday leadership moments, like including a classmate at recess or calmly settling a disagreement.
