As part of Forest Hills Public Schools, Northern Trails 5/6 School, with an enrollment of close to 900 students in grades 5–6, is one of the larger intermediate school models in the area. The current student–teacher ratio is 18:1, supported by almost 50 educators and staff. Academic proficiency levels in mathematics and reading are at nearly 62% and 68%, respectively, which is consistent with the state levels. The demographics of Northern Trails, which include 78% White, 10% Asian, 6% Hispanic, and 4% Black, suggest a moderate degree of diversity. Approximately 12% of students qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch, suggesting a relatively constant socioeconomic base. The families of the Forest Hills school district have a median home price range of about $430K–$460K, and the neighborhoods are known for their livability rating. Although many families seek the best elementary schools in Michigan, Northern Trails offers a unique learning environment for upper-elementary learners that combines academic rigor and developmental support.
