About Francophone Charter School Of Oakland

Francophone Charter School of Oakland (FCSO) is a public TK–8 dual language immersion school providing French and English language instruction to a diverse group of students. Founded in 2015, the school exists to foster bilingualism, biliteracy, and global citizenship for students through a multi-disciplinary and culturally-relevant curriculum through which all students can contribute and thrive. The school has consistently achieved very strong academic outcomes for its students, with over seventy percent of its students enrolled achieving reading proficiency and almost sixty percent achieving math proficiency. FCSO has fields tripled in size since its inception and is recognized as one of the top charter schools in California and the United States. The school serves a diverse community of students, with a variety of racial and cultural backgrounds. About forty percent of students come from households that do not speak French, and most become fluent by the end of kindergarten. Located in Oakland, California, FCSO has approximately 330 students in grades TK-8, with student-teacher ratios around 19:1. FCSO is a charter school, and as a small single-campus charter, it constantly operates on lean resources.
