Houston Elementary is getting an upgrade that will allow it to hold 400 students instead of 336 by the 2025–2026 school year. This will meet the district's educational standards and earn the school LEED BD+C Schools - Gold certification. This project shows that the school is dedicated to making the learning environment better. The Visalia Unified School District, which includes Houston Elementary, has also won a California School Boards Association Golden Bell Award for its creative Blended and Non-Blended Universal Transitional Kindergarten Program.
