About Torrey Hills

Torrey Hills School, a public grade school in San Diego, California, is part of the Del Mar Union Elementary School District. It teaches kids from kindergarten to 6th grade. About 440–460 kids go there, and there's one teacher for every 20 students, so teachers can really pay attention to each kid. The school is big on reading, writing, and math, but they also want kids to learn how to think for themselves and solve problems. They teach what the state wants them to, and they have fun activities that help kids grow in different ways. They think it's important for kids to get involved, work together, and like being at school. The kids come from different backgrounds. About 60–65% are minorities, including Asian, Hispanic, White, and mixed-race kids. The school does well academically. 78% of students are good at Math, and 81% are good at Reading, which is better than most schools in the state. The school gets the same amount of money per student as other schools in the district, which helps them pay for books and services for the kids.
