Starting in spring 2025, Juarez Elementary in San Diego is joining a new after-school music and culture program.

As part of their extended day, kids at Juarez and other San Diego schools will learn mariachi music and ballet folklórico. Not only will they get to perform, but they'll also learn about different cultures. The program mixes music with dance, history, and getting creative, so kids can learn about cool artistic traditions by doing them.

Instructors visit schools twice a week for 10 weeks to keep things interesting. The program wraps up with performances that bring all the participating schools together. This push to add more arts and after-school stuff goes hand-in-hand with what the school district wants to do.

Right now, Juarez Elementary students have better chances to work on their art skills, celebrate their culture, and have fun learning with others outside of school.
