Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy is one of the grate schools in Salinas, California. It is a public charter school for grades K-6 that serves approximately 601 students. The student-to-teacher ratio is approximately 25:1, providing academic structure to our learners. Approximately 95% of our students are from low-income households. Our readers and mathematicians have an average proficiency rate of 28% and 17%, respectively, but with the support of our teachers and mentors, they continue to grow in their abilities. In our student body, 44% are female and 56% are male. Families living within a few miles of our school have a median income and their homes sell for between $500,000 and $650,000. We value the character of our students by teaching them respect, equality, and leadership. Our teachers and staff are often recognized for their ability to develop and demonstrate compassion and consistency while providing excellent support and encouragement to our students. Also teachers earned numerous commendations from parents for their caring, responsive, and ongoing communication regarding their children. Parents value and appreciate the balance of developing character along with helping their kids be successful academically.
