Charleston, West Virginia's Ruthlawn Elementary School is a public school for kids in grades PK–5. With 250 students and a 12:1 student-teacher ratio, the school can give each student more one-on-one attention and help in the classroom. Ruthlawn Elementary focuses on the basics of math, reading, and writing, and offers extracurricular and enrichment activities that help students grow socially and emotionally. According to data from USA News, 52% of students at Ruthlawn Elementary scored at or above the proficient level in math, and 52% did the same in reading. The money the school gets goes toward things like classroom instruction, student resources, and enrichment programs that help students learn better. Ruthlawn Elementary is in a residential area of Charleston, where it benefits from a supportive community and a positive school environment. The school is known for helping students do better in school and giving all of them a well-rounded, inclusive education, making it one of the best elementary school in West Virginia.

In April 2025, Ruthlawn Elementary School hosted the West Virginia Girls Rise Up program, an initiative led by U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito and America250 Chair Rosie Rios. The event brought the leadership-focused program to campus, where 4th and 5th grade girls participated in discussions about self-confidence, education, and physical fitness.
