Columbian Elementary School announced its Winter Recess for December 22, 2025, through January 2, 2026. Families were reminded to plan accordingly for the break.
Q1. How does Columbian help people learn basic writing skills?
Ans. Students do shared writing, modeled writing, and structured independent writing that meets OPS literacy standards.
Q2. What does the school do to teach basic geography?
Ans. To help students understand places and how they relate to each other, teachers use maps, identifying symbols, and studying neighborhoods.
Q3. What methods help students improve their ability to understand what they hear?
Ans. Columbian uses read-alouds, oral storytelling, and interactive questioning to help students understand what they hear better.
Q4: How does Columbian encourage students to take responsibility for their learning materials?
Ans. Classrooms use labeled bins, supply routines, and cleanup systems to teach students how to take care of and organize shared resources.
Q5: How does the school use games to help kids learn math early on?
Ans. Students play math games and use manipulatives that help them count, compare, and solve problems in a fun way.
