Auto Door Sensor

MoonCampaign by Aju (10 years)

Aju developed an automatic door sensor system using a Micro:bit, an ultrasonic sensor, and a servo motor, creating a hands-free solution for opening doors. The ultrasonic sensor detects nearby objects or people by emitting sound waves and measuring how long they take to return. When the sensor detects movement within a set range, the Micro:bit processes this data and activates the servo motor to open the door. The system automatically closes the door after a set time or when no motion is detected. This project showcases a practical application of automation that enhances convenience, hygiene, and efficiency in various environments.

I developed an automatic door sensor system to make access more seamless and hands-free. This project utilizes modern technology to detect nearby movement and open doors without requiring manual interaction, making it both practical and efficient for everyday use.

For this project, I used a Micro:bit as the central controller, an ultrasonic sensor to detect the presence of a person or object nearby, and a servo motor to operate the door mechanism. These components work together to provide an automated solution for opening doors.

Here’s how it works: The ultrasonic sensor continuously emits sound waves and measures the time it takes for the waves to bounce back after hitting an object. When the sensor detects an object or person at a certain proximity (determined by pre-set programming), it signals the Micro:bit. The Micro:bit then processes this information and sends a command to the servo motor, which rotates to open the door. After a set time or when no object is detected, the motor automatically returns the door to its closed position.

This auto door sensor is an efficient and accessible innovation that can enhance convenience in homes, offices, and public spaces. It provides a touchless experience, promoting hygiene and modern automation.

The Future Belongs to Critical Thinkers

Hard Truth About Future of Work

WEF's Future of Jobs Report 2025 reveals that 40% of employers expect to reduce their workforce where AI can automate tasks . While AI is projected to create 69 million new jobs globally by 2030, it will simultaneously eliminate 83 million positions, particularly in clerical, administrative, and routine cognitive roles. The message is clear: routine tasks are being automated, but critical thinking and communication skills cannot be replaced.

What AI Can Never Replace:
  • Critical Thinking & Analysis

Rated by 78% of business executives as the most important skill they seek, yet only 34% of college graduates arrive well-prepared in this area

  • Communication Skills

Essential for collaboration, innovation, and leadership in STEM fields

  • Problem-Solving

The ability to break down complex, unprecedented challenges and devise creative solutions

  • Adaptability & Resilience

Mental agility to assess new situations and pivot strategies in rapidly changing environments

MoonCampaign Prepares the Next Generation

When students (ages 7-16) build projects, they're not just learning to code, they're developing the future-proof skills that AI cannot replicate:

  • Technical Skills:

Arduino programming, sensor integration, conditional logic, and hardware troubleshooting

  • Critical Thinking:

Analyzing real-world safety problems, designing solutions, and debugging when things don't work as expected

  • Communication:

Articulating their process, presenting their work, and explaining complex technical concepts in accessible language

  • Digital Marketing & Entrepreneurship:

Showcasing their innovations publicly, building their personal brand, and learning to pitch their ideas

  • Problem-Solving:

Overcoming challenges like mixed-up variables and incorrect responses through systematic troubleshooting
