About Annette Mackaness
Annette Mackaness is the Principal and Owner of I'm Going 2 College!, an independent college admissions consulting practice she founded in September 2014 in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her counseling approach is highly personalized to assess each student's unique profile and understand their college aspirations. She believes that through careful planning, mutual focus and strong partnerships with students, families, teachers and high school counselors, she can enable students to find and get into the right college where they will succeed and thrive. Her philosophy aligns with the perspective of Frank Sachs, former President of NACAC, who stated that college is a match to be made, not a prize to be won. At I'm Going 2 College!, the mission is to successfully guide students through the college preparation, selection and admissions process to help them find the best fit college that provides the greatest overall opportunity to meet their full potential in terms of academic, personal and post-graduation career objectives.?
Before launching her college counseling practice, Annette built an extensive career in business, finance and human resources management. From 2013 to 2018, she served as Principal and Owner of Mack Consulting Group, providing on-demand consulting services in recruiting and human resources management to help companies meet their business needs, with experience spanning high tech, fast-moving consumer goods and medical device industries. From 2010 to 2013, she was Director of Human Resources at Ricoh eWriter Solutions, a division of Ricoh Co. LTD Japan, where as a trusted member of the senior management team she was responsible for all HR functions, including staffing, performance management, organizational planning, compensation, change management, employee relations and facilities management. Earlier in her career, she worked as Finance Manager at Netscape Communications from 1995 to 1999, where she was the first financial support person for the Executive Vice President of Marketing and Online Advertising Divisions, managing budgets that grew from 28 million to over 90 million in expenses and from 36 million to over 120 million in revenues. She also worked as a Financial Analyst for Sales at Apple Computer from 1993 to 1995, supporting the Business and Higher Education markets with fiscal year revenues exceeding 2.5 billion dollars collectively, and as an Auditor at Ernst & Young from 1992 to 1994, providing auditing and accounting services to clients across semiconductor, software, biotechnology, retail and manufacturing industries.?
Annette holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting and Finance from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Her background in finance, auditing, human resources and business operations provides her with strong analytical skills, attention to detail and understanding of organizational systems that inform her strategic approach to college admissions consulting.
