About Virginia Shuman Young Elementary School

Virginia Shuman Young Elementary School, located in Fort Lauderdale, offers one of the only Montessori-based education programs for children ages Pre-K to 5th grade. The charter school is unique in its ability to promote independence, creativity, and critical thinking within a curriculum that remains rigorous (72% of our students are reading at grade level, whilst 71% are math proficient).

?Students attend multi-age classrooms, which promote positive mentorships and collaborative work products, and the school performs well while striving to support academic success alongside child-centered learning. There is currently a lottery process for K-5, and Pre-K is fee-based, but those fees are modest. The school day runs from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, with bus transportation for those students who qualify. Virginia Shuman Young Elementary School is proud of its reputation for academic achievement as well as being one of the best elementary schools and supportive learning environments in Fort Lauderdale.
