About the Innovator

I’m excited to share my project, the Light-Up Musical Party Gadget. I chose this project because I love parties and thought it would be fun to create something musical and bright. When you press button A on the Micro:bit, it displays “ENJOY,” shows a smiley face, then displays “PARTY” while playing the Happy Birthday song. I even wrote the music code myself during lessons so I could use it for special family birthdays.

I’m going to tell you about my latest creation — the Light-Up Musical Party Gadget.

I chose this project because I absolutely love parties and thought it would be exciting to make something bright, cheerful, and musical. I was curious to see how I could combine lights, words, and music in one Micro:bit program. When you press button A, the Micro:bit displays the word “ENJOY,” followed by a smiling face icon, then the word “PARTY.” Right after that, it plays the Happy Birthday tune.

I first learned how to code music on the Micro:bit during one of our lessons. I made sure to write down the notes for the Happy Birthday song so I could use it whenever it was someone’s birthday in my family. This way, I could bring a little surprise and joy to our celebrations without needing a real instrument.

While creating this gadget, I used different blocks in MakeCode, such as “plot” to turn on specific LEDs and “unplot” to switch them off. It was fun experimenting with different patterns and learning how each block worked. I also enjoyed adding the smiley face and words to make the gadget feel more festive.

In the end, my Light-Up Musical Party Gadget turned out exactly as I hoped — a fun, bright, and happy little invention that can bring a smile to anyone’s face. I hope you enjoyed learning about it as much as I enjoyed making it!
