Kashyap's project, Raptor Run, is a dynamic game built using Makecode Arcade. Inspired by endless runner games like the Chrome dinosaur game, Kashyap added a unique twist by featuring a raptor running through the game, avoiding obstacles like rocks and cacti. The raptor is controlled by the player to jump over obstacles, with gravity coding ensuring realistic movements. The game also includes a score system that increases as the player survives longer and speeds up over time for added challenge. The scrolling background and animated raptor give it a lively, immersive feel. Kashyap enjoyed integrating coding with game design, creating a fun and smooth gameplay experience.
For my project, I created a game called Raptor Run using Makecode Arcade. It’s an exciting and simple game where you control a little raptor as it runs through the screen, trying to avoid obstacles and survive for as long as possible. The inspiration came from endless runner games like the Chrome dinosaur game, but I thought adding my own raptor twist would make it more interesting.
In the game, the raptor can jump over objects like rocks and cacti as it moves forward. I used sprite animation to bring the raptor to life, so it really looks like it’s running when the game starts. I also coded in gravity so the raptor doesn’t just float but instead comes back down after jumping. Timing the jumps is important because if the raptor hits an obstacle, the game ends, and you get your final score.
To make the game more engaging, I added a score system that increases as you play longer. The farther you get without hitting an obstacle, the higher your score becomes. I also made the game speed up after a while to keep it challenging. As you play, the background scrolls continuously, which adds to the running effect and makes the gameplay look smooth.
I really enjoyed creating Raptor Run because it allowed me to combine my ideas for game design and coding. Watching the raptor run and adding fun elements like obstacles, jumps, and scores taught me a lot about using Makecode Arcade tools. It’s a simple, fun game, and I’m really proud of how it turned out!
