Briarwood School is in Rochester and serves approximately 152 students in grades K-3 as a small early learning community. The small academic community consists of nine full-time teachers, resulting in a student–teacher ratio of about 16 to 1 with daily adult guidance and independence.
Academically, Briarwood is unique. Approximately 85% of students are proficient or above proficient in math and 75% of students are proficient or above proficient in reading, which outpaces the state averages. The student demographics are also very balanced. About 28% students are part of minority enrollment and 21% of students are from economically disadvantaged families.
Briarwood also has specialists and staff to provide early literacy, enrichment, and support for early learners. Briarwood hopes to cultivate creativity through arts and other activities related to social development, making it one of the best elementary schools in Rochester.
