Perimeter is the distance around the outside of a shape. It is the sum of all the sides of the shape.

Jack and Emma were playing in their backyard when they noticed a beautiful garden filled with colorful flowers next door. The garden was surrounded by a fence to protect the flowers.

They were curious about how long the fence was, so they decided to find out the perimeter of the garden.

• Q-1
• A rectangular garden is 8 meters long and 5 meters wide. What is the perimeter of the garden?

• Q-2
• Sarah wants to put a fence around her square flower bed. Each side of the flower bed is 6 feet long. What is the perimeter of the flower bed?

• Q-3
• The length of a rectangular bookshelf is 3 feet, and its width is 2 feet. What is the perimeter of the bookshelf?

• Q-4
• A playground has the shape of a triangle. The sides of the triangle measure 6 meters, 8 meters, and 10 meters. What is the perimeter of the playground?

• Q-5
• Emma is making a rectangular picture frame. The length of the frame is 12 inches, and the width is 4 inches. What is the perimeter of the frame?

• Q-6
• A square table has sides that measure 5 feet each. What is the perimeter of the table?

• Q-7
• The sides of a regular hexagon are each 3 centimeters long. What is the perimeter of the hexagon?

• Q-8
• A rectangular swimming pool measures 10 meters in length and 6 meters in width. What is the perimeter of the pool?

• Q-9
• The sides of a regular octagon are each 4 inches long. What is the perimeter of the octagon?

• Q-10
• A farmer’s field is in the shape of a parallelogram. The length of the base is 15 meters, and the height is 7 meters. What is the perimeter of the field? ## Jack and Emma took small steps along the fence, counting as they went. They walked along the front side, the back side, and the two sides. They found that the front side was 5 steps long, the back side was 3 steps long, and each side was 4 steps long.To find the perimeter, they added all the sides together: 5 + 3 + 4 + 4 = 16 steps. So, the perimeter of the garden was 16 steps. That’s how the perimeter helped Jack and Emma know the total distance around the garden. Simply put, Perimeter is the measurement of the total distance around the boundary or outer edge of a two-dimensional shape, such as a polygon or a closed figure. It is calculated by adding the lengths of all the sides of the shape.
